Make-It Topic: Monsters

Imaginative:
  • Place out different masks and items allow the children to dress up as monsters 
  • Set up a monster ball have a dance floor and games to play
Language:
  • Read “Where the wild things are”
  • Read “Go away big green monster” 
  • Make a flannel story of Five little Monsters
Five little monsters by the light of the moon
Stirring pudding with a wooden pudding spoon.
The first one says, "It mustn't be runny."
The second one says, "That would make it taste funny."
The third one says, "It mustn't be lumpy."
The fourth one says, "That would make me grumpy."
The fifth one smiles, hums a little tune,
And licks all the drippings from the wooden pudding spoon!

Art:
  • Place an outline of a monster have different materials out for the children to make a monster 
  • Make monster masks 
  • Place out pudding and have the children finger paint monsters
Water/Sand:
  • Have monsters in the water to wash
  • Place worms and bugs into the sand table 
  • Place hands and feet shapes into the sand
Gross Motor:
  • Make large feet out of cardboard attach strings encourage the children to walk in the big feet making prints
  • Have a monster dance
Science/Curiosity:
  • Make some slime for the children using cornstarch and water
  • Get some silly putty and allow the children to make goop monsters
  • Have flashlights and sheets to explore shadows
Blocks:
  • Add characters from the Disney movie Monsters Inc. 
  • Place stackable containers such as yogurt to build monster caves
Conceptual/Tabletop/Fine Motor:
  • Have different size monster cut outs for size sorting
  • Place different monster parts out with containers for sorting
  • Have teeth color matching game
  • Have a paper monster with a tail of string allow the children to bead the monster tail
Music:
  • Sing If you ever see a Monster
If you ever see a monster a big ugly monster.
If you ever see a monster here is what you do.
Make this face… and this face… and this face… and this face…
If you ever see a monster be sure to yell Boo!

Quiet:
  • Place some monster puppets in the area for the children to talk to
  • Place the Go away big green monster book to read
Cooking:
  • Make monster toast
-Bread
-Food coloring
-Milk
Place the food coloring into the milk have the children paint a face on their bread then toast cant wait to see the Monster toast

Field trips:
  • Go for a walk being different types of monsters
  • Around Halloween go for a walk see what monsters are on the yards
