CFSA Review: June 1, 2012

Day Home 1:

On May 31st a Child and Family Services Authority representative conducted a day home provider review. During the review she noted the Standards being met, such as;

• Variety of toys and materials available indoors and outdoors easily accessible to the children
• Individual mats and bedding used for each child
• Individual change pads used during diapering and used appropriate supervision
• Daily program and menu is posted for parents
• Fire drills are practiced monthly and emergency evacuation procedures are posted
• All safety requirements were in place (ie, medication under lock and key)
• Pet vaccinations up to date, no pet food or water accessible to the children

As a result of the review, the CFSA representative identified that this Day Home is non-compliant with one provincial standard for the family day home program. The non-compliance is as follows:

Family Day Home Standards

Standard 3: Portable Emergency Information Records;

• 3 of 4 children's portable records reviewed were not up-to-date with current information.

Hemel House took immediate action in investigating this non-compliance. Immediately after the CFSA review at the Hemel House office on June 1st, a Hemel House Child Care Consultant reviewed all child information over the phone with the provider who made immediate changes to her records ensuring all information is up to date.

June 7th a Child Care Consultant visited the day home conducting a monthly visit to ensure all information was up to date. Hemel House initiated a policy change in using the child registration form as the portable emergency record to minimize on additional paperwork. 

June 8th we received a letter from the CFSA stating, "The information provided demonstrates that the Family Day Home has come into compliance with Provider Standard 3 as of June 7th, 2012. This matter is now closed. Thank you for your timely response."

  

Day Home 2:

On May 31st a Child and Family Services Authority representative conducted a day home provider review. During the review she noted the Standards being met, such as;

• Variety of toys and materials available for children of different ages
• Individual mats are used for children who nap
• The daily program is posted on the board at the entrance for parents
• Children were in hearing distance at all times and provider checked on children frequently when not in sight
• Child Guidance policy on site and signed by both parent and provider
•  Fire drills are practiced monthly and emergency evacuation procedures are posted
• All safety requirements in place

As a result of the review, the CFSA representative identified that this Day Home is non-compliant with one provincial standard for the family day home program. The non-compliance is as follows:

• 2 of 5 children's portable records reviewed were not up-to-date with current information
